10 Things About Digital Education Leadership

The Seattle Pacific University School of Education newsletter (On Point) editor asked me to share ten things about digital education leadership, reflecting on SPU’s Digital Education Leadership graduate program. I used ISTE’s Standards for Coaches as a framework to organize the list. The list of statements is not in order of importance as I do not believe any single statement is more important than the others. Instead, I organized the statements by the standard number. Also, I was asked to share a list of ten things and so that is what I did. I can easily see where the list could have been shorter or longer.

I created this presentation using Microsoft Sway. I am experimenting with sharing the presentation in WordPress as my graduate students may want to use Sway in their capstone portfolios. I like that Sway let me search for Creative Commons licensed images, add them to the presentation, and automatically link them to a page with license information.

Currently, there is an issue in WordPress where opening a link to the blog post takes a viewer to the bottom of the web page. I have not taken the time to figure out why this is. Another possible issue is how intuitive navigating the presentation will be. Viewers can gesture by dragging down to move through the content or use arrow keys on the keyboard. When I experimented with this on a Macintosh with the Chrome browser I had a little trouble keeping the entire presentation on the screen when I tried to scroll using the touchpad. Navigating with the arrow keys worked well. Also, navigating the Sway presentation in WordPress on an iPhone worked well. I would love to hear about experiences from others who use other devices and browsers to access the presentation.
